Interval Training Sessions and Group Locations
What to expect at your weekly speed session
Our sessions focus on interval training—the most effective way to build speed and stamina. Training is conducted on local sports fields, occasionally using surrounding footpaths for variety.
- Warm Up: An easy run on the oval, including drills and exercises to improve your running mechanics.
- Interval Training: The main component involves running faster than your usual pace, with active or standing recovery intervals in between.
- Variety: We utilise a wide range of formats, including handicapping, relays, and hill technique sessions (both up AND down).
Our sessions are designed so that no one is left behind. Our more advanced runners are challenged with different distances and recovery times, while newer runners work at their own pace.

Who Are Our Interval Running Groups For?
Our running groups are for women looking for a supportive and motivational environment. You will be a great fit if you:
- Are a busy person who needs to maximise the benefits of limited training time
- Enjoy being part of a group that will rise to the challenge and gently push you on those tough days
- Can run for 20 minutes without a break
How Fast Do I Need To Be?
You don’t need to be a specific pace to start. We primarily use Rating of Perceived Exertion—so you run at a pace that feels challenging to you.
- Ability Range: Our runners’ 5k times range from low 20 minutes to around 40 minutes. We have runners training for distance from 5k to the ultra marathon.
- Please Note: To get the most from our sessions, you must be able to run for at least 15–20 minutes without stopping. A very easy pace is fine. If you’re not quite there yet, our our Learn to Run Course might suit you better.
What Local Runners Love About Hooked on Running
The best part of Hooked on Running is the community. Here is what our runners on the North Shore and Northern Beaches have to say:
“I love coming to our running groups each week. The variety is fantastic, and the company is great. I consider myself very lucky to be running with such a supportive group of women. And on top of all that, I’m getting fitter and faster! I can’t speak highly enough of you :)”

“I just would like to let you know I have really enjoyed coming to your running groups for the past 12 months. I have always looked forward to your classes every week believe it or not. My fitness has improved immensely. This is the fittest I have ever been!”
Ann Tse, St Ives
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is Hooked on Running a club or a training group?
A: We are both! While we are structured as an expert-led interval training group with certified coaches, we also function as a supportive running club. We provide the camaraderie and accountability of a club, with the specific, results-driven programming of a personal coach.
Q: I’m worried about injury or holding the group back.
A: Our coaching specializes in the 40+ runner. We prioritize structural integrity and running economy. Our variety of session formats guarantees that a sub-20 minute runner and a 40-minute runner can train side-by-side, getting a fantastic workout without anyone holding anyone back.
Q: How fast do I need to be?
A: You do not need to be a superstar. Because we train by time and effort (not just distance), the group stays together regardless of speed. We will never go out on a group run and leave anyone behind!
